I studied Tourism & Leisure Management back in the Netherlands as I always knew I wanted to work abroad. The thought of working with different cultures and learning a different language always really interested me. In 2014 my partner and I decided to move to West Kelowna, Canada to enjoy a different lifestyle and beautiful scenery. I was working as a Restaurant Manager in a Winery called Quails Gate; they produced their own wines and served locally-sourced food. As amazing as the job and experience was, I knew hospitality was not the right career choice for me and living and working in Canada for long-term wasn’t either. We returned to the UK and when I started looking for a different job I came across a job advertised at Tidal Lagoon Power.
I started at Tidal Lagoon Power as the Travel Coordinator, looking after travel and associated administration and I also supported the day-to-day reception tasks. After 5 months really enjoying that role an opportunity came along to apply for the role as Facilities Manager. I never thought I would go down this path but I absolutely love it. As a Facilities manager I make sure our workplace meets the needs of employees and I’m responsible for the management of services and processes that support the core business of the organisation. One of things I enjoy the most about this role that it is a diverse field with a range of responsibilities.
I really enjoy working for Tidal Lagoon Power – it’s a fast paced environment but you feel really taken care of with the opportunity to participate in lunchtime yoga classes or simply chill out in the meditation room. Most importantly we have a great great mix of people with amazing skills and lots of experience and we are working on such a fantastic project.
