Tidal Lagoon Power (TLP) is leading the development of tidal lagoon technology within the UK. Initially focused on the development of a 320MW scheme in Swansea Bay, TLP aims to bring sustainability, reliability and long-term security to the UK energy mix via a network of UK lagoons. Purpose of the role:

We are looking to appoint a Principal EIA Manager to lead the EIA of future tidal lagoons and associated projects throughout the UK.

We are looking for a confident self-starter with excellent communication and teamwork skills able to take technical and commercial responsibility for all aspects of our future lagoon projects.

This role would be based in our head office in Gloucester and would report to the Head of Environment.

 

Key responsibilities & accountabilities:

  • EIA coordination for future lagoon projects, including responsibility for commercial and technical management of consultants.
  • Technical review of reports and quality assurance of deliverables.
  • Providing support regarding associated assessments required in relation to Habitats Regulations Assessment and Water Framework Directive.
  • Providing input to Evidence Plan Process.
  • Environmental input associated with any licencing requirements.
  • Stakeholder consultation – building relationships with both statutory consultees and other groups/members of the public, representing Tidal Lagoon Power at external events.
  • Liaison with other internal teams – in particular planning, engineering and consultation teams.
  • Commercial and financial management – budgets.
  • Programme management – to ensure delivery programme is maintained.
  • Procurement – tender review and evaluation for specialist support and survey work.

 

Skills, capabilities & knowledge:

  • Degree in a relevant environmental discipline, preferably in a marine subject (e.g. marine ecology, fisheries, oceanography or similar).
  • MSc or other post-graduate qualification in a related environmental area (particularly EIA or environmental management).
  • Significant experience in leading and coordinating EIA projects for major infrastructure projects – including all stages of EIA – preferably in the marine or coastal environment (in particular the energy or renewable energy sectors).
  • Experience of leading and managing a multi-disciplinary team of specialist consultants and working closely with engineering designers.
  • Able to carry out technical review of EIA chapters and be responsible for ensuring appropriate quality assurance for EIA deliverables. Strong report writing skills and substantial experience of ES preparation.
  • Previous experience and familiarity with the requirements of both national and international legislation including Habitats Regulations Assessment and Water Framework Directive.
  • Experienced in the development of environmental mitigation and compensation proposals, including engagement and liaison with statutory consultees.
  • Commercially aware with proven track record of financial project management, proposal review and evaluation and tendering/procurement. Role would include responsibility for budget control and management.
  • IT literate.
  • Direct experience or at least familiarity with the requirements of the Planning Act 2008 and the DCO process in England and Wales. Experience of monitoring programmes and discharging Marine Licence conditions and DCO requirements.
  • Experience of stakeholder consultation, including presentations.
  • Ability to travel within the UK to undertake site visits and stakeholder meetings.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as IEMA, CIEEM or similar an advantage.
