Terrestrial ecology refers to the plants and animals on land which may be affected by a tidal lagoon project. Development of a tidal lagoon will result in direct and indirect impacts to terrestrial ecology during construction, operation and decommissioning phases. The EIA work carried out for coastal processes, coastal birds, intertidal ecology and terrestrial noise and vibration will all feed into the assessment of terrestrial ecology.
Potential impacts include:
- Visual disturbance
- Noise disturbance
- Temporary and/or permanent habitat loss, degradation, fragmentation or modification
- Introduction of new species
- Pollution of environment
