(This message was added in version 4.8.3.) in /var/www/vhosts/tidallagoon.spindogs-dev.co.uk/httpdocs/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4165 West Cumbria - Tidal Lagoon

With one of the UK’s highest tidal ranges, the West Cumbrian Coast holds significant potential for energy generation and we are considering plans for a full-scale tidal lagoon on the coast north of Workington.

Our environmental, technical and development teams have completed the first phase of stakeholder engagement. Completing nearly 100 meetings with local government, nature conservation bodies, community groups, businesses, marine users, sporting and recreation interests, plus the nuclear sector. This work has ensured that our plans are informed by real world data, active engagement from key stakeholders and strong local views from the outset. As a result we believe that Tidal Lagoon West Cumbria could be a significant and exciting addition to Britain’s energy infrastructure as part of our fleet of future lagoons.

In addition to helping the UK transition to a low carbon future – providing secure and affordable low carbon energy – we believe that a West Cumbrian lagoon could be uniquely positioned to deliver a range of economic, social and environmental benefits which are strongly aligned with local priorities for economic growth, tourism and leisure, flood risk management, coastal erosion, infrastructure improvement and social inclusion.

That remains our goal, but our short-term priority has to be the construction of our first project in Swansea Bay and progressing further plans to harness the country’s best tidal range resource in the Severn Estuary. These projects establish a new global industry led by the UK and pave the way for lagoons in West Cumbria and around the world.
