Local Residents Encouraged To Look At the View

Local residents are encouraged to take a look at the view of the proposed Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon.

Swansea-based iCreate has produced visually verified photomontages of the lagoon from 22 locations around Swansea Bay. Accurate and to scale, these have been produced in compliance with best practice and are now available to view at locations around Swansea Bay or online at www.tidallagoonswanseabay.com.

The 22 viewpoints were agreed with local authorities and regulators, representing key views of the lagoon. ‘Before’ and ‘after’ images are provided for each of the 22 viewpoints. Eight of those viewpoints were identified as of greatest importance. For these, images are available at both high and low tide. Other viewpoints have been provided at either high or low tide.

Source images were taken on clear days, at a height of 1.6m above ground to match the average height of a person. Use of GPS data ensures the lagoon can be accurately rendered onto the source photo. Panoramas are produced using recognised software to minimise distortion.

Buildings associated with the lagoon, for example the off-shore visitor centre, are shown as simple blocks representing maximum building envelopes, to allow for future variation in the proposed architectural designs.

Alex Herbert, Head of Planning explained:

“All of the verified images are available to view online and a selection is available at exhibitions throughout the area. We encourage local people to take a look at the view, both before and after the lagoon.”

“More exhibition venues are being added on a regular basis throughout Swansea and Neath Port Talbot so there should be ample opportunity for people to view the images.”

Over the coming months the images will be available to view at Oriel Bach Gallery, Mumbles; SA1 Waterfront Community Church; NSA Afan Dalton Road Employment Academy, Port Talbot; NSA Afan Development Centre, Port Talbot; Mozart Drive Community Centre, Port Talbot; Baglan Community Centre and Britton Ferry Community Centre. Please check Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay’s website for exhibition dates and location addresses.

All images are available to view on an interactive map at www.tidallagoonswanseabay.com or for further information on exhibition opening times and dates call 01792 274006 or visit www.tidallagoonswanseabay.com/news-and-events.
