The time to change our approach to infrastructure development is now. Tidal Lagoon Power’s model for tidal lagoons combines the delivery of clean affordable energy with large scale biodiversity conservation. Tidal Lagoon Power has established its Ecosystems Enhancement Programme that will run alongside the lagoon development programme. It will demonstrate that zero carbon energy schemes can provide large scale power while investing in the local economy and the natural environment. In doing so, Tidal Lagoon Power will deliver net positive biodiversity gains.
Following ongoing engagement with key stakeholders and organisations, we are pleased to launch our Ecosystems Enhancement Programme Strategy. The Strategy sets out how TLP will meet its legal requirements, and go beyond this, by creating large areas of mudflat, saltmarsh and grazing marsh, and improving reens and rivers for fish, whilst providing other biodiversity enhancements; aiming to combat the ongoing declines that we are witnessing in nature as a result of the growing threats from climate change. We look forward to working closely with key stakeholders and organisations on the EEP to achieve the best outcome for nature conservation.
