Alec is a graduate Professional Civil Engineer and also holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. With over 23 years of experience, more than 18 of which is in marine construction, Alec has acquired a combination of academic, practical and commercial experience in addition to accumulating a wealth of marine construction and engineering knowledge. Prior to entering the marine construction field, Alec gained significant experience in structural engineering while working as a Consulting Engineer. Alec has also held the position of Guest Lecturer at Stellenbosch University where he lectured Coastal Engineering Masters students on the topic of sub-sea pipeline engineering.
Alec has led on marine projects from concept development through to project implementation in Southern Africa, Madagascar, the Middle East, South East Asia and Australia. His areas of expertise cover both the design and construction of marine structures, sub-sea pipelines, immersed tunnel cooling water intake and outfall systems, and offshore mini-jacket structures.
As the Project Manager for the Turbine Structures for the Swansea Bay project, in the pre-construction phase, Alec will be responsible for developing the detailed engineering, construction programme and undertaking contract negotiations with the Tier 1 contractors leading to contract signing and financial close. He is also currently managing the Marine Works package and will lead this through the re-tendering phase to financial close. During construction his responsibilities will include the delivery of the contract packages. In addition, Alec supports the future lagoon programme giving input into construction planning and methodologies.
