Chief Investment Officer, GFG Alliance, and Chief Executive Officer, SIMEC Energy & Mining Divisions and GFG Capital.
After graduating in business management, Mr Hambro began his career in resource finance with NM Rothschild & Sons, before moving to the investment bank of HSBC, advising multinational mining groups. He then joined what is now the Petropavlovsk plc group in a business development role and later as Chief Investment Officer before spearheading the development of their industrial commodity divisions as CEO of Aricom plc (FTSE listed) and more recently as Chairman of IRC Limited (HKEx listed).
Under his leadership the IRC business became the first vertically integrated industrial commodity producer in Russia. He also constructed and commissioned c.30mtpa of iron ore mining and processing operations bringing on stream one of the lowest cost new iron ore mines in the world; and has raised well over US$1bn in development finance for these projects.
Mr Hambro joined GFG Alliance in January 2016 with a remit of growing the worldwide interest of SIMEC as well as leading the development of the Group’s property and financial arm.
Mr Hambro is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and holds the following non-executive directorships: Independent Non-Executive Director of Winsway Enterprises Holdings Limited; Independent Non-Executive Director of Cellmark AB; and Non-Executive Chairman of IRC Limited. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management.
