Alex leads the consents team for Tidal Lagoon Power. He has been involved in the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon project since day one, building the in-house planning and consultant teams, leading the masterplanning and application process to consent in June 2015, and now working towards construction start-on-site. In 2014, the team’s pre-application consultation on Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon was highly commended by the Royal Town Planning Institute Cymru, and (with LDA Design) they won Best Strategic Landscape Planning and the President’s Award from the Landscape Institute. Alex and the team now apply this award-winning planning support to the development of second and subsequent lagoons in the UK and overseas.
Alex previously led the planning team at Low Carbon Group, planning for solar, wind and tidal energy projects (consenting over 110MW of onshore renewables). He also spent a period in local government and worked for EDAW/AECOM on masterplanning and infrastructure projects including the London 2012 Olympic Park and legacy projects.
Alex is a chartered town planner, a member of the Council of the National Infrastructure Planning Association, and a graduate of Cambridge University (MA Geography, 1995) and London South Bank University (MA Planning Policy & Practice, 2006).
