Mike is a qualified Mechanical Engineer and professional Project Leader who has over 30 years of experience in the thermal and renewable power industries, working as both client for major utilities including RWE and Eneco and supplier for Alstom Power and Siemens Power Generation. His notable successes within major infrastructure delivery include the €2bn 576MW Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm off the North Wales coast, the 92MW Farr Onshore Wind Farm in Scotland and a gas and oil fired Combined Heat and Power project for Michelin Tyres in Stoke-on-Trent.
In the client role, he has led infrastructure projects through the project life cycle from development, through construction and commissioning and into operations. In the supplier role, he has been EPC Project Director with Alstom Power responsible for leading the delivery of a multi-contract combined cycle gas turbine power project.
In addition to his engineering qualification, Mike has studied an MBA and a PGC in Managing Major Projects. Whilst working in the offshore wind industry, he sat as Vice Chair of Renewable UK’s Offshore Wind Delivery Group.
As Tidal Lagoon Power’s Director of Engineering & Construction, Mike leads a highly qualified and experienced team of multi-discipline engineers, project managers, numerical modellers, procurement and commercial professionals and health, safety and environmental specialists. His remit covers the entire project life cycle from origination, through development and consenting, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning, into operations and maintenance and then ultimately decommissioning. Mike’s team supports all of Tidal Lagoon’s fleet of UK and International development projects. As a project nears the construction phase, for example Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay, then Mike forms and leads a dedicated Project Delivery Team responsible for the safe and successful delivery of the project.
